Testimonials

I recently returned from the Birds of Paradise workshop. It was an incredible adventure and a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to observe these magnificent birds in their natural habitat. This was far more than a casual birdwatching tour. We had exclusive access to a remote private nature reserve. The friendliness of our hosts and guides, even though neither of us could speak the other's language, quickly made it memorable. In return for our efforts, we had an extraordinary opportunity to photograph these spectacular birds at eye level, in a truly wild and untouched environment. It was challenging, uncomfortable at times, and unlike any conventional bird photography trip, but that is precisely what made it so memorable.
This was my fourth wildlife adventure in Indonesia with Phillip, and once again, everything was exceptionally well planned and executed. As a long-time resident of Indonesia, Phillip brings invaluable local knowledge and connections. His ability to speak the language lets us travel well beyond the typical tourist experience, and this amazing adventure was another example of how his knowledge and connections open doors to truly unique experiences.

Yet another well planned and well-executed journey with Phillip. The excursion to the lodge was an adventure all by itself! Once there, we were pampered day and night. The area was spacious, serene, and extremely isolated. Aside from the Sumatran Tiger (which we did see in the wild), there was an abundance of wildlife and birds to focus on. Having been to Indonesia multiple times, we found the temperature and humidity a bit cooler than usual. Perpetual food, friends, FUN, and frequent exploration, it was magical. Compared to many of his other treks that we have enjoyed, this one was relaxed and tranquil. Just sorry that it ended so soon, could've stayed for another week! Can't wait until the next trip.

I recently returned from the “Life on the Equator”, Komodo, Borneo and Java photo workshop with Phillip Bartlett. What a fantastic experience this was! I had previously traveled New Zealand with Phillip and was delighted at the opportunity to travel with him again. This was a trip of a lifetime for me. I was thrilled with adventure (especially the orangutans!), the accommodations, the food (the food!), the fellow travelers (all of whom had also travelled with Phillip before… I think that says something!), and of course Phillip and his carefully curated guides and support teams. I truly appreciated the ability to relax and simply enjoy the adventure in comfort and style, confident in Phillip’s ability to handle the multitude of logistical elements required to pull off a trip like this. Phillip is really, really good at what he does! (Reviewed on Google)

I have done multiple New Zealand photo workshops with Phillip Bartlett (Capture New Zealand) and so when he invited me on an Indonesia photo trip I didn’t hesitate. What a great adventure with an amazing mix of wildlife, landscapes, and local culture. Never a dull moment! And I appreciated that Phillip spoke Indonesian which meant that we could explore places well off the tourist path. The whole experience was far above my expectations and I hope to return to Indonesia again soon on another workshop.

Great wonderful experience as the trips have had it all--gorgeous landscapes, amazing wildlife, incredible food, friendly people,...I have been on this particular trip 5 times already and will be returning next year cannot say enough good things about it all.

Having previously traveled with Phillip in his native New Zealand and Australia, I was looking forward to my first land tour of Indonesia and I was not disappointed! The trip was highly productive, with multiple, extended encounters with our target Komodo Dragons and Orang-utans, as well as lots of other bird and animal species and breathtaking landscapes. In the field, Phillip was always close by to answer questions and to offer hints and tips on making the most of the photographic opportunites. Logistics were seamless and Phillip's fluent Indonesian meant that everything went smoothly. I am very much looking forward to my next Indonesian adventures in 2025 and beyond.
